Parish home of champs - Nine state team titles, 21 individual state titles
The 2011-12 prep sports year has been one for the record books for Ouachita parish high schools. All told, parish high school teams brought home nine state championship crown, four teams finished as state runners up, and seven teams advanced to the semifinals or finished in the top four of their respective sports.
In individual competition, 21 parish athletes earned state titles this sports season. The highlight of the sports year was the football season which saw for the first time in the history of the LHSAA three teams from the same parish (West Monroe, Neville and Ouachita Christian) advanced and won state titles.
One could say that it has been the year of the OCS Eagles. OCS took home state championships in four sports – football, baseball, boys' outdoor track and field and girls' outdoor track and field.
"Our success really started with our senior class this year," OCS Athletic Director Micah Harper said. "We had 46 seniors who were great leaders in the classroom and on the athletic fields."
According to Harper, the OCS senior class of 2012 racked up over $3 million in scholarship money and the average ACT score for the class was a 24.For the full story, subscribe to the The Ouachita Citizen's NEW E-Edition! |
