Close but no cigar for local fisherman in Ronald McDonald Big Bass Tourney

We have all heard the old saying - "I once caught a fish this big."

For Tom Torregrossa, he wishes that he fish could eaten just .01 more food before landing on his hook Saturday in the first day of the 21st Annual Ronald McDonald House Big Bass Tournament held on the Ouachita River.

Torregrossa, who leads after the 1st day of the Big Bass Tournament, brought in a fish that weighed 5.99 lbs. If Torregrossa's bass would have weighed a perfect 6.00 pounds, he would have brought home the $10,000 prize for the "Perfect Bass."

According to Ronald McDonald Big Bass chairman Brad Burch, roughly around 500 fishermen competed in Saturday's tournament. One thousand dollars was awarded for those who brought in the biggest fish at each hourly weigh in.

Those winners on Saturday for biggest bass each hour were:
7:00 a.m. - Mark Thomas (4.27 lbs.)
8:00 a.m. - none reported
9:00 a.m. - Tom Torregrossa (5.99 lbs.)
10:00 a.m. - Jackson Blackett (4.18 lbs.)
11:00 a.m. - Blake Daniel (4.29 lbs.)
12:00 p.m. - Jeremy Hinton (4.34 lbs.)
1:00 p.m. - Glenn Bean (4.34 lbs.)
2:00 p.m. - Andrew Read (3.41 lbs.)

The official weigh-in on Saturday and Sunday takes place at the Ike Hamilton Expo Center in West Monroe, LA. Weigh-ins will resume Sunday at 7:00 a.m. and will conclude at 3:00 p.m.

The Top Finisher will be awarded $10,000, 2nd place $2,500 and 3rd place $1,000.

The Ronald McDonald House Big Bass Tournament is the only tournament held in Northeast Louisiana that supports the local Ronald McDonald House.
