Little league play heats up - WM baseball, softball teams in the mist season

West Monroe Dixie Youth baseball and softball league is hitting the home stretch of its 2012 regular season.

Volunteer coaches help develop the future prep stars for tomorrow in the better athletes. Charlie Simpson is a great example of one of those
coaches. Simpson coaches both his sons - Zachary and Chandler baseball and T-Ball teams.

"Coaching my sons is one of the most rewarding and best things that I do with my time," Simpson said. "The invaluable lessons that a child can learn from team sports is absolutely priceless and to be able to be the one out on that field with 12 + kids together learning, listening, laughing, playing, working hard, and praying is one of the most treasured moments of my life and a legacy within itself."

Chandler and Zachary's mother, Tanie Schott Simpson echoed the importance playing extra curricular activities plays in her kids' lives.

"I think its important for kids to play youth sports for so many different reasons," Schott-Simpson said. "Because so many children participate from our community it enables them to make friendships outside of those
at their schools attended."

For the Simpsons having two boys playing baseball has been a juggling act of sorts.

Zachary plays on Sports City Grill T-Ball team along side his cousin Christian Ponti while Chandler is playing in the 9-10 year old league for United Home Care.

Charlie Simpson works for United Home Care and Trinity Home Care as the Chief Operations Officer for both companies.

According to Trey Bethea Publicity Chairman of West Monroe Dixie Youth, over 1,400 boys and girls are participating in this year's season.

"So far, the season has been a tremendous success," Bethea said. "On any given night, the ballpark's is full of fans supporting their child, grandchild or family friend.

With my first year on the board, it has been a pleasure to seat back and watch not just my child, but all of the children picking up the rewards that Dixie Youth sports has to offer."
