Crusaders fall to powerful Family Christian
by Jimmy Touchet - posted E-mail Story E-mail Story | Print Story Print Story
The Claiborne Christian Crusaders came to Sulphur with the expectation
that every game was a blessing. After all, the experts didn't pick the Crusaders to be in the Class C state championship game.

Even though CCS was going for the fourth title in five years, Family Christian was the team to beat from the start of this year's tournament.

That fact rang true on Saturday, as Baton Rouge's Family Christian Flames blasted their way to a 7-1 victory over CCS at Sulphur's McMurry Park.

"Our kids played hard. We got beat by a better team in Family Christian
today," Claiborne Christian Coach Chad Olinde said. "We were not supposed to be here. Nobody picked us to be here, and to get here is just a great team effort."

Claiborne Christian did take a one run lead in the top of the second behind a Colby Spillers single that scored Zach Osbon.

The Flames took the lead for good in the bottom of the second thanks to a walk and a fielding error which led to two runs for Family Christian.

"We had a couple of errors that we kind ofcostly," Coach Olinde said. "Zach was ready and there was nothing more we could have done. He did a great job. It was tough on Zach to comeback on the very next day, but man what a gutsy performance by that kid."
