OCS state champs
The Ouachita Christian Eagles (29-4) proved why they were ranked number one in the state for most of the 2012 season with a resounding 11-1 victory over the Central Catholic Eagles (20-11) in LHSAA Class 1A state championship game held at La Tech's J.C. Love Field on Saturday.
The game was called due to the LHSAA's mercy rule which states "A game can be called if a team is up by 15 runs by the 3rd inning or 10 runs by the 5th inning."
Senior Mark Laird led the Eagles at the plate going 3 for 4 with the game winning RBI in the bottom of the fifth to clinch the victory for OCS.
For his efforts, Laird was named the game's Most Valuable Player – a honor that he also won in the Class 1A state championship football game held last December.
"Mark is a quality person and there is a lot more to him than just being a good athlete,he is a great student and well rounded young man," OCS Coach Micah Harper said. "I think it was really fitting that he pitched the first pitch of the tournament and he hit the last ball of the tournament."
