Claiborne Christian edges Georgetown 3-1 -

Crusaders to face No. 1 Family Christian in state finals Saturday.

The Claiborne Christian Crusaders came to Sulphur in quest of their fourth state championship in five years. The journey took a little longer due to an hour and a half rain delay, but when the umpire said "play ball," CCS pitcher Zach Osborne and the rest of the Crusaders came out blazing as the knocked off Georgetown 3-1 to advance to the Class C state championship game.

Osborne pitched a one hit complete game with eleven strike outs on 100 pitches of work. The only run for Georgetown came by way of an error — the only error CCS allowed in the game.

"Zack is an excellent pitcher who can throw in the 70 mph to 90 mph range coming off his 6'6" frame," CCS Coach Chad Olinde said. "It is a difficult target to hit."

Macon Bell was the leading hitter for the Crusaders going 3 for 3 with 2 RBIs.

The Crusaders will rest tonight and take the field tomorrow against the Family Christian Flames at noon at Sulphur's McMurry Park.

The Flames advanced by blasting the Elizabeth Bulldogs, 9-0, in the other Class C semifinal contest.

Family Christian did not throw their ace, Ben Chauvin (5'11" junior), against the Bulldogs.

Even though Claiborne Christian has more experience when it comes to winning championships, the Crusaders will enter the Class C state championship game as the underdogs. Family Christian has plowed through their season with 22-8 record.

In the playoffs, the Flames have burned the competition 36-0 over three games.

Zach Osborne will again get the start for Claiborne Christian.

"We have been working with Zack over the past three weeks getting him ready to throw in this situation (pitching back to back games in two days)," Coach Olinde said. "No doubt in the morning, he will awake sore. We will stretch him extra like we have done the past few weeks, and he should be good to go."

Osborne will have to be on his game to handle the power in the Family Christian lineup.

"They have good hitting club and a lot of speed," Coach Olinde said. "They are very athletic and run the bases very exgressively."

Macon Bell was the leading hitter for the Crusaders going 3 for 3 with 2 RBIs.
