An exciting late night phone call

Donna, my wife, and I had been married for almost one week when we received a late night telephone call. I expected it to be one of those phone calls from someone wanting the funeral home.

Our new telephone number had been the number of a funeral home. Lucky us. But this call was one of the most exciting calls that I had ever received in my life. At this time in my life, I was playing semi-pro football for the Twin City Panthers. The Panthers had been organized two years earlier. The call was from an assistant coach from a team in the Canadian Football League. He introduced himself then asked if I would I like to come play for them. I did not hesitate answering with a resounding, yes!

I had spent the past four years trying to get a shot at playing professional football. I had become my own PR man. I had put together a scrapbook of my playing days at Northeast Louisiana State College, now ULM.
