Monroe schools workers' comp claims cost $1.2 million

The Monroe City School Board is looking at ways to trim the amount of money it must pay to settle insurance claims whenever employees are injured on the job.

The School Board operates as a self-insured entity for workers' compensation claims, meaning it pays out of pocket for certain on-the-job injuries. Those claims are handled on behalf of the School Board by a third-party administrator.

This year, payments through the workers' compensation fund could top $1.2 million, according to Terry Duke, the third-party administrator for Monroe City Schools.
