Contract revisions produce savings for schools

The Ouachita Parish School Board approved another round of cost-cutting recommendations from its finance committee.

At a regular meeting Monday, the School Board also approved the sale of one tract of the former Swartz School property and let bids on the sale of another tract.
In a continuing effort to grapple with a decline in state funding, board members accepted three recommendations made by the finance committee.

One recommendation revised the band uniform purchase policy. New uniforms will be bought on a 10-year cycle, rather than replacing them every eight years, with no purchases to be made until the 2014-2015 academic year. That's expected to save between $75,000 and $80,000.
