Northeast Louisiana to see first Dragon Boat Festival

The Radio People and Miller 64 will present the first ever Dragon Boat Festival to Northeast Louisiana on May 19.

Dragon boat racing is an ancient — and unique —team sport offering team building, camaraderie and a lot of fun, all on a 41-foot boat.

In its first year, the Bayou DeSiard Dragon Boat Festival will benefit the Downtown Monroe Renaissance Group, a non-profit organization dedicated to the revitalization and growth of Downtown Monroe, and is part of the Downtown Partnership.

"Downtown Monroe Renaissance is appreciative to be a part of this fun-filled weekend," said Matthew Cameron, president of Downtown Monroe Renaissance. "It gives participants and spectators the perfect opportunity to learn something new and serve our community. We look forward to the competition and community camaraderie this festival brings."
