City-wide coalition elects Mayo

Monroe Mayor Jamie Mayo said voter turnout Saturday in his successful re-election campaign showed wide support throughout the city for his administration.

"I was pleased with the vote I received," Mayo said. "In a competitive race, you always want to get as high of a vote percent as possible, but certain issues and factors will sometimes diminish that."

Mayo received more than 54 percent of the 12,165 votes cast in the April 21 election, defeating retired physician Ray Armstrong, who secured almost 46 percent of votes.

Complete but unofficial returns showed Mayo received 6,591 total votes to Armstrong's 5,574.
