Fantanstic Four - Parish sends four teams to Sulphur State Tourney
This year's LHSAA Fast Pitch 56 State Softball Tournament will feature an interesting assortment of the state's best softball teams. Some of these teams were expected to make it to the elite eight. Others are playing the role of Cinderella hoping that the clock will not strike midnight on their fairy tale season.
A grand total of 56 softball teams (8 teams in 7 classes) will converge on Sulphur's Frasch Park in pursuit of their ultimate goal – A State Championship in softball.
Northeast Louisiana will send a grand total of eight teams to Southwest Louisiana – four of which are from Ouachita Parish.
In Class 4A, we will have two parish representatives vying for the state championship crown - the Neville Lady Tigers (24-4) and the West Ouachita Lady Chiefs (14-14).
The Lady Tigers have not given up a run in the post season behind the brilliant pitching of junior Meagan Lively and a rock steady defensive unit.
In the first round, Neville defeated a talented Benton squad by the score of 6-0. The second round saw the Lady Tigers traveling down to Napoleonville to face the Assumption Lady Mustangs (13-15).
The Lady Mustangs batters gave the Lady Tigers all they could handle as they started to get in sync with Lively's delivery to place runners in scoring position several times during the game only to be denied by a defensive stops by Neville. For the full story, subscribe to the The Ouachita Citizen's NEW E-Edition! |
