Mayo wins, Jail Tax passes
by Michael DeVault - posted E-mail Story E-mail Story | Print Story Print Story
Jamie Mayo's tenure as mayor of Monroe will continue for another four years, after voters opted to grant him another term at the helm of the city he has led since 2002.

With almost 6,600 votes cast in his favor, Mayo garnered 54 percent of the vote to best challenger Ray Armstrong, who received more than 5,500 votes.

Meanwhile, voters overwhelmingly supported a 5-year, 9.2-mill property tax to fund operations at the Ouachita Correctional Center.

Complete but unofficial returns showed 59 percent of voters throughout Ouachita Parish supported the tax.

For complete elections coverage, including reactions to the results and an indepth analysis of the election, pick up the April 26 print edition of The Ouachita Citizen.
