Two former Monroe city councilmen convicted last year of soliciting bribes from a Monroe businessman were sentenced Monday in U.S. District Court in Monroe.

Arthur Gilmore and Red Stevens must report to jail by 2 p.m., June 11, under terms of sentences imposed by U.S. District Court Judge Robbie James.

Stevens was sentenced to 51 months in prison for his conviction on two counts of bribery and racketeering. Gilmore received a 41-month sentence for two counts of bribery and racketeering.

Gilmore and Stevens were convicted in April 2011 of extracting some $8,100 in bribes from Eddie Hakim. They also sought services and special considerations in real estate deals.
