by Michael DeVault - posted E-mail Story E-mail Story | Print Story Print Story
Two former Monroe City Council members convicted of soliciting bribes from a Monroe real estate developer were sentenced Monday in U.S. District Court.

Arthur Gilmore and Red Stevens must report to jail by June 11 under terms of a sentence imposed by U.S. District Court Judge Robbie James.

James sentenced Gilmore to 41 months in prison for his part in a scheme to bribe Eddie Hakim of cash, services and special considerations in real estate deals. Stevens received a 51 month sentence for his part.

Attorneys representing both defendants have indicated they will appeal their clients' convictions and sentences.
