Board OKs port funding

The West Monroe Board of Aldermen unanimously approved the city's share of funding for a rail siding project at Greater Ouachita Port.

During their regular meeting Tuesday night meeting, aldermen agreed to use some of its share of surplus money held by the Monroe-West Monroe Public Trust Financing Authority for the port project.

The Greater Ouachita Port Commission has long proposed an expansion of the railroad that serves the port.

Some of the federal funding secured in 2008 for the $2.9-million project is set to expire soon unless matching local funds become available.
