Surgical hospital unveils DaVinci robot

Routine laparoscopic surgery just got a little safer after Monroe Surgical Hospital unveiled a new microsurgery robot that will help the hospital provide state-of-the-art care to patients.

Hospital CEO Scooter Chriceol said Monroe Surgical invested more than $1 million to secure a DaVinci Si surgical robot and train the staff necessary to operate the unit.

"This is the first surgery system of its kind in northeast Louisiana," Chriceol said, speaking at an unveiling ceremony Tuesday.
