When children are the victims of bullying at school, more likely than not, they will not come home and share their misery with their parents. When the parents find out about the bullying either from the child or from someone else, our first reaction is "Why didn't you tell me?" Some of the most common reasons are:
Embarrassment. They are ashamed of being controlled by someone else.

Fear. They are afraid of retaliation if they tell a grownup.

Feeling of Helplessness. They don't think anyone really CAN or WILL help them.
Rejection by Adults. They have been told that bullying is a natural part of growing up.

Confusion. They don't want to be accused of tattling or "ratting."
