Ouachita, Richwood and Sterlington installing new turf
Prep sport fans of Ouachita Parish, Richwood and Sterlington High School will soon be given a "Field of Dreams" to watch their favorite teams play on for the 2012 seasons.
Currently, all three schools are tearing up their sod natural grass fields and replacing them with artificial surfaces. Baring weather delays, all three fields are slated to be ready by the early part of the summer in plenty of time before football season.
"All five parish high schools will now be on equal footing," Ouachita Parish School Board Superindent Dr. Bob Webber said. "It is important to note that the dollars used were voted on by the East side of the parish. These dollars could only be used for capital projects – not salaries."
The price tag for each field is around $800,000, but due to expenses saved in maintenance, fuel, paint, and man power to maintain a natural grass field – each field should save money over the 10 year cycle.
