Armstrong picks up endorsements

A group of retired Monroe police officers will back Dr. Ray Armstrong in his bid to become the next mayor of Monroe.

That announcement surfaced at a news conference held at Armstrong's campaign headquarters Monday afternoon. It was one of three endorsements Armstrong picked up this week for his campaign to unseat Mayor Jamie Mayo.

Also this week, Armstrong received the endorsements of former mayoral candidate Clint Thomas and members of the sanitation workers union.

Thomas said he chose to endorse Armstrong after the two spoke about the plight of Monroe employees.
