Engineer recommends citations to curb speeding

Residents of one northern Ouachita Parish neighborhood may need to pay attention to the speed limit for the next few weeks if the Ouachita Parish Police Jury heeds the advice of parish engineer Kevin Crosby.

For several months, Police Juror Walt Caldwell has fielded telephone phone calls from constituents in Frenchman's Bend subdivision. Constituents called to complain about speeding automobiles along two of the busiest streets in the neighborhood.

Those complaints prompted Caldwell to inquire about the installation of stop signs at intersections on Frenchman's Bend Road and East Frenchman's Bend Road.
At a regular meeting of the Police Jury held Monday, Crosby informed Caldwell that best practices in traffic management recommend against using stop signs as speed-control measures. Crosby offered his own suggestion on how to deal with speeders in Frenchman's Bend.
