Ouachita Parish Sheriff Royce Toney pleaded not guilty last week to 21 felony and misdemeanor counts stemming from a federal investigation into identity theft and computer hacking.

Toney was indicted on those charges in February by a federal grand jury. He was arraigned in U.S. District Court in Monroe on Wednesday, March 28.

At Toney's arraignment last week, U.S. Magistrate Judge Karen Hayes also declined to ease restrictions placed on Toney as conditions of his release.
Toney was arrested Feb. 24 after an 18-month investigation that federal prosecutors say shows Toney engaged in numerous instances of identity theft, computer fraud and obstruction of justice.
