A Ouachita Parish Sheriff's deputy at the heart of a federal obstruction of justice case has been rehired, Sheriff-elect Jay Russell announced Tuesday.

OPSO Col. Marc Mashaw supposedly resigned from the Sheriff's Office Jan. 26, just weeks prior to Ouachita Parish Sheriff Royce Toney's indictment on 21 counts of identity theft, computer fraud and obstruction of justice. Mashaw claims Toney fired him. Toney denies the allegation.

Mashaw's departure led federal prosecutors to charge Toney with an additional count of obstruction of justice.

Toney was arraigned on all 21 counts March 27 in U.S. District Court in Monroe. He pleaded not guilty to all charges.
