Disbursement aids Greater Ouachita Port work

A $2.85-million capital improvement project at Greater Ouachita Port got a shot in the arm Wednesday.

That's the case courtesy of the Monroe/West Monroe Public Trust Finance Authority. The finance authority's advisory board agreed to disburse some $1.2 million in surplus funds, of which $250,000 was earmarked for the port project.

The advisory board met Wednesday morning at West Monroe City Hall.

The finance authority's contribution to the port project is contingent upon the port receiving funding from a host of federal agencies as well as the state. Besides the finance authority, Ouachita Economic Development Land Corp. has agreed to provide $250,000 toward the port endeavor.
