Residents slam drainage

Every time a storm dumps heavy rains, Jan Mercer said she worries about whether her home will flood.

Mercer shared that concern Monday night at a regular meeting of the Ouachita Parish Police Jury.

"Several times, Ive seen the water come up to my back door," Mercer told police jurors. "Its been an inch away from my back door multiple times."

Mercer's home is on Brianna Circle, in Police Juror Scotty Robinsons District A. Robinson said he had been in touch with Mercer and with the Police Jurys Public Works Department about numerous drainage problems in Mercers neighborhood.
"One was a very large sink hole in her front yard," Robinson said. "I believe Public Works has gone out and fixed that."
