Candidates make final push Former Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich barnstormed through northeastern Louisiana Tuesday to drum up support among GOP voters in his bid to become the Republicans answer to President Barack Obama.
Speaking to a crowd of roughly 400 at the Atrium Hotel in Monroe Tuesday afternoon, Gingrichs visit to Louisiana ahead of Saturdays elections shed light on the states heightened role in the Republican presidential preference primaries. Gingrich said Louisiana is one of the keys in his quest to become the Republican presidential nominee.
"Ideally, wed love to come in first, but we want a substantial number of delegates here," Gingrich told The Ouachita Citizen.
