Almost 2,300 voters showed up at polling locations last week to cast early ballots for the March 24 primary election, according to complete but unofficial results from the Ouachita Parish Registrar of Voters.

Early voters showed their support for candidates in the Monroe mayoral election, a special election for West Monroe alderman, a host of Democratic and Republican Party posts, and for the Democratic and Republican presidential preference primaries.

Registrar of Voters Christa Medaries said the turnout for the presidential primaries was higher than the 2008 presidential cycle.

"Four years ago, we had 956 votes in person," said Medaries. "So its quite a bit more this time around."
