A pedestrian has died after being struck by a car on Interstate 20 in Monroe.

The crash occurred on December 5, 2009 at about 7:05 p.m. Troop F Troopers investigated the crash and determined that a pedestrian attempted to cross the eastbound lanes of I-20 near milepost 121 when he was struck by a 2003 Chevrolet Impala that was traveling east in the left lane. A 2008 Mitsubishi Galant was traveling east in the right lane and swerved off the road to the right to avoid hitting the pedestrian. The Mitsubishi struck a fence after leaving the roadway.

The pedestrian, identified as 20-year-old Lacarlton May from Monroe, was pronounced dead at the scene by the Ouachita Parish Coroner's Office.

The driver of the Chevrolet, identified as 24-year-old Quincy Chase from Newellton, was not injured in the crash.

The driver of the Mitsubishi, identified as 48-year-old Quontia Cooper from Rayville, reported minor injuries.

Alcohol use is not suspected to be a factor in the crash.

In 2009, Louisiana State Police Troop F Troopers have investigated thirty-eight (38) fatal crashes resulting in forty-four (44) deaths.
