Before joining the military, Thompson worked at his father's tree cutting business, Thompson Tree Service.
Thompson served in Vietnam from 1966 through 1967 with the 1st and 3rd Divisions of the Fleet Marine Force. He was one of more than 250 veterans from Ouachita Parish who were honored by Gov. Bobby Jindal Monday during a special ceremony at Monroe Civic Center.
